«Este crimen es una afrenta a los derechos humanos y a la dignidad humana», recalcó Antony Blinken, secretario de Estado, al presentar el reporte anual.
Blinken aseveró, además, que el tráfico de personas tiene «un peso desproporcionado» sobre quienes «son objeto de opresión por otras injusticias» en países en desarrollo y advirtió de que la pandemia ha «agudizado» los problemas entre los más vulnerables.
La lista, de un total de 17 países, la completan: Afganistán, Argelia, Myanmar, Comoras, Eritrea, Guinea-Bisseau, Irán, Corea del Norte, Malasia, Rusia, Sudán del Sur, Siria y Turkmenistán.
La inclusión en la «lista negra» puede llevar a la imposición de sanciones como la congelación de la ayuda no humanitaria y no comercial para los países sancionados o la exclusión de préstamos de instituciones, como el Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI), si así lo decide el presidente de EEUU, Joe Biden.
