Organizaciones que apoyan a los inmigrantes lanzaron la campaña Welcome Connect Travel que pretende recaudar dinero y millas aéreas para costear vuelos hacia Estados Unidos de solicitantes de asilo que hayan sido aceptados.
La iniciativa del grupo migratorio Welcome.US y la multinacional American Express busca recaudar 1,5 millones de dólares para financiar vuelos para solicitantes de Cuba, Haití, Nicaragua, Venezuela y Ucrania, explicaron las organizaciones en un comunicado, reseñó EFE.
El Gobierno del presidente Joe Biden implementó un programa que permite que hasta 30 mil solicitantes de asilo calificados por mes de Cuba, Haití, Nicaragua y Venezuela sean aceptados en el país si cumplen con ciertos requisitos, entre los que se incluye tener un patrocinador, que garantice vivienda, educación y salud de los migrantes. Un programa similar recibe desde el año pasado a solicitantes de asilo ucranianos.
La campaña, que cuenta con el apoyo de Miles4Migrants, apoyado por American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), considera que el costo promedio de un pasaje aéreo es de mil 600 dólares, fondos que deben pagar los migrantes o sus patrocinadores.
«Sabemos que el costo de viajar a un lugar seguro puede representar una carga financiera para los recién llegados y los patrocinadores y no queremos que ese costo se interponga en el camino de las personas para encontrar una vía hacia la seguridad», dijo Nazanin Ash, presidente de Welcome.US.
«Es otra forma de demostrar que cuando nos unimos, podemos aumentar exponencialmente nuestra capacidad de bienvenida», agregó Ash sobre la campaña.
En 2021 una campaña similar logró recaudar más de 2 millones de dólares y 500 millones de millas aéreas para ayudar a 18 mil afganos a viajar a Estados Unidos.

The Russian forces are intensifying their attacks almost on an hourly basis, which has resulted in a cut off of all essential supplies and clothing. With extreme cold and lack of food supplies, it has become extremely difficult for innocent Ukrainian civilians to survive, most of whom are homeless. Internet and all communications are heavily censored and down most of the time.
