Un terremoto de magnitud 7,2 en la escala abierta de Ritcher sacudió hoy el noreste de Japón, y ha llevado a las autoridades niponas a declarar la alerta de tsunami en la prefectura de Miyagi.
El sismo se produjo a las 18.09 hora local del sábado (9.09 GMT), con epicentro en el mar frente a la costa de Miyagi y a unos 60 kilómetros de profundidad, según informó la Agencia Meteorológica de Japón (JMA).
Este organismo también alertó del riesgo de que se produzca un maremoto de un metro de altura en esa misma prefectura nororiental nipona.
La televisión nipona NHK informó de una subida del mar de aproximadamente esa altura registrada pocos minutos después del temblor en Miyagi, mientras que las autoridades alertaron de que podrían producirse sucesivos maremotos de mayor altura.
El terremoto alcanzó en Miyagi el nivel 5 superior en la escala nipona, de un máximo de 7 y más centrada en las zonas afectadas que en la intensidad del temblor.
En otras regiones del noreste de Japón el seísmo fue del nivel 5 de esa escala, mientras que en el área metropolitana de Tokio, donde el temblor se sintió con fuerza, fue del nivel 3.
En la prefectura de Fukushima, donde se encuentra la accidentada central nuclear de Fukushima Daiichi, también se alcanzó el nivel 5, y en estos momentos la operadora de la planta se encuentra analizando si el seísmo causó algún daño, según informó NHK.
También se está evaluando la situación en la planta de Fukushima Daiini, que permanece inoperativa desde el desastre nuclear causado por el terremoto y el tsunami de marzo de 2011, así como en otras centrales atómicas de las regiones afectadas.
El Ejecutivo nipón ha convocado a un equipo de emergencia para recopilar la información disponible, según el citado medio estatal.
El epicentro del temblor se ha localizado en una zona próxima al que originó el seísmo de magnitud 9,1 en la escala Ritcher del 11 de marzo de 2011, que causó un tsunami que arrasó el noreste de Japón y desencadenó el accidente nuclear de Fukushima Daiichi.
El pasado 14 de febrero se produjo otro temblor de magnitud 7,3 en la escala Ritcher frente a la costa de Fukushima, que según los expertos de la JMA pudo tratarse de una réplica del de 2011 y podría ser sucedido de otros temblores similares.
