De acuerdo a la Asociación de propietarios de autobuses privados, sus conductores tuvieron que hacer cola durante unas siete horas para repostar combustible. Añadiendo que solamente la cuarta parte de su flota de 20.000 vehículos podría circular en esta jornada.
Ante la falta de divisas, Sri Lanka lucha para poder financiar las importaciones esenciales y sus 22 millones de habitantes, están casi sin combustible, pero tampoco cuentan con alimentos ni medicinas. La isla depende por completo de las importaciones para cubrir sus necesidades de petróleo.

Para colmo, además de la escasez, uno de los mayores proveedores de combustibles en Sri Lanka, Lanka IOC, aumentó sus precios el sábado en un 12% y la principal empresa petrolera estatal, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), ha solicitado poder hacer lo mismo.
