El presidente de la Asamblea Nacional, Jorge Rodríguez, exigió este domingo al alto representante de la Unión Europea para Asuntos Exteriores, Josep Borrell, que cumpla el convenio firmado con el Consejo Nacional Electoral del país sobre la misión de observación para los comicios del 21 de noviembre.
«Fue una violación flagrante del convenio que firmó el Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), que suscribe de manera taxativa que debe respetarse la soberanía de los venezolanos. Si él (Borrell) tiene rollos políticos allá a lo interno de la UE, ese es su problema», expresó Rodríguez durante su participación en el ensayo electoral de cara a los comicios regionales y locales de noviembre.
Borrell defendió el viernes, durante un desayuno informativo organizado por Nueva Economía Fórum, en Madrid, que la misión «acompañará» a la oposición, porque «es una mayor garantía para ellos» que los observadores de la UE estén «presentes auditando el sistema».
«Si la oposición decide ir y eso es un camino que permite abrir una brecha y conseguir una mayor institucionalización de la oposición, ¿voy yo a decir que no mando una misión de observación electoral porque las elecciones son fraudulentas?», argumentó el también vicepresidente de la Comisión Europea.
«Pues vaya un ánimo que les doy para que se presenten si ya digo que son fraudulentas», agregó Borrell acerca de una oposición que, mayoritariamente, participará en los comicios por primera vez desde 2017.
Además, explicó que, a su juicio, lo que «legitimará o deslegitimará» al Gobierno de Maduro será lo que diga el informe elaborado por la misión, la primera que manda la UE al país suramericano desde hace 15 años.
El presidente del Legislativo afirmó que ninguna misión de observación puede inmiscuirse en los asuntos internos de un país, ya que «violenta el primer artículo del acuerdo que el señor Borrell firmó con el CNE».
«Si es así, mejor no venga. Si viene a cumplir con los estándares de observación electoral establecidos por la Organización de Naciones Unidas, bienvenidos, nuestros brazos están abiertos. Si viene a violentar los estándares, el convenio que ellos firmaron, mejor no venga, porque nosotros eso no lo vamos a aceptar», exclamó el diputado chavista.
