Japón activó hoy la alerta de tsunami a causa de un terremoto de magnitud 7,3 frente a las costas de las prefecturas de Fukushima y Miyagi, al noreste del país.
El sismo se produjo a las 23.36 hora local (14.36 GMT), a una profundidad de 60 kilómetros, según informó la Agencia Meteorológica de Japón (JMA), que ha alertado sobre un posible tsunami en la zona más afectada de hasta un metro de altura.
El terremoto estuvo precedido de otro sIsmo de menor intensidad, y llegó a alcanzar el nivel seis alto en la escala nipona, de un máximo de siete y centrada en medir la agitación en la superficie y las zonas afectadas más que en la intensidad del temblor.
El fenómeno geólogico se dejó notar con fuerza en otras zonas del este y del centro de Japón, entre ellas Tokio, donde alcanzó el nivel cuatro de la escala japonesa, según reseña EFE.
La operadora de la central nuclear de Fukushima Daiichi, en proceso de desmantelamiento desde la crisis nuclear desencadenada por el gran terremoto y el tsunami de marzo de 2011, se encuentra en estos momentos analizando si se ha producido algún daño por el nuevo sismo, así como en otras instalaciones atómicas cercanas.
El movimiento ha causado cortes eléctricos en la localidad de Soma, en Fukushima, así como en amplias zonas de Tokio y en las prefecturas colindantes de Kanagawa, Chiba y Saitama.
El primer ministro nipón, Fumio Kishida, convocó una reunión de emergencia para coordinar el seguimiento de la situación y analizar posibles daños.
Varias líneas ferroviarias de alta velocidad han sido interrumpidas en el noreste del país, mientras que también se han cerrado por precaución diversos tramos de autopistas, así como el aeropuerto tokiota de Haneda.
