La ONG Human Rights Watch (HRW) acusó este viernes a Facebook de haber suprimido «de manera injusta» sus publicaciones en defensa de intereses palestinos durante la escalada violenta en mayo en Israel y en territorios palestinos.
Según esta organización defensora de los derechos humanos, numerosas publicaciones de palestinos o de apoyos suyos fueron consideradas como «discursos o símbolos de odio» y suprimidas de Instagram, una red social que pertenece a Facebook.
La empresa de Mark Zuckerberg incluso retiró publicaciones que consistían simplemente en compartir informaciones de medios de comunicación.
«Injustamente Facebook retiró o suprimió contenidos (…), algunos de ellos eran sobre abusos de derechos humanos perpetrados por Israel en Palestina durante las hostilidades de mayo», afirmó la organización en un comunicado.
«Estas supresiones nos hacen pensar que Instagram restringe la libertad de expresión sobre temas de interés público», criticó HRW, que denunció una «censura» por parte de la multinacional estadounidense.
«La dimensión y la cantidad de las restricciones señaladas justifican una investigación independiente», añadió.
A principios de mayo, enfrentamientos violentos estallaron en Jerusalén Este, la zona palestina de la ciudad, ocupada y anexionada por Israel desde 1967.
El movimiento islamista Hamas reaccionó lanzando misiles desde Gaza hacia Israel, que respondió con 11 días de intensos bombardeos sobre el enclave palestino.
Estos enfrentamientos provocaron 260 muertos en el lado palestino y 13 en el israelí.
Las cuentas de WhatsApp, que también pertenece a Facebook, de periodistas palestinos quedaron bloqueadas, incluidas las de reporteros de la AFP en la Franja de Gaza.
