Entra en erupción el volcán de la isla de La Palma en Canarias (videos)

Una erupción volcánica ha comenzado esta tarde de domingo en la Cumbre Vieja de La Palma, en la zona de Las Manchas, después de más de una semana en la que se han acumulado miles de seísmos en la zona.

En la zona, cercana a Las Manchas, se aprecia ya una enorme columna de materiales volcánicos, según ha podido presenciar Efe.

El punto concreto donde ha estallado el volcán no está poblado, según ha confirmado el presidente de Canarias, Ángel Víctor Torres.

La Cumbre Vieja de La Palma es uno de los complejos volcánicos más activos de Canarias. En ella se han producido dos de las tres últimas erupciones registradas en las islas, el volcán San Juan (1949) y el Teneguía (1971).

El Instituto Geográfico Nacional y el Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias venían registrando desde el 11 de septiembre una importante acumulación de miles de pequeños terremotos en el entorno de la Cumbre Vieja, con focos que comenzaron a más 20 kilómetros de profundidad, pero que fueron ascendiendo progresivamente hasta la superficie.

Desde comienzos de la semana, la isla se encontraba en semáforo amarillo por riesgo volcánico en esa zona (nivel 2 de 4).

Esta misma mañana, las autoridades comenzaron a evacuar los vecinos con problemas de movilidad en las localidades de los municipios de El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane, Villa de Mazo y Fuencaliente.

Desde que hay registros históricos -desde la conquista de Canarias del siglo XV-, las La Palma ha sido escenario de siete de las 16 erupciones volcánicas que ha vivido el archipiélago.

El Servicio Canario de la Salud, adscrito a la Consejería de Sanidad del Gobierno de Canaria, ha dispuesto los recursos y equipos sanitarios previstos para dar respuesta a las acciones contempladas en el plan de evacuación de La Palma (PLEVAPAL), con motivo de la eventual erupción volcánica en la Isla.
