El papa Francisco recibirá en audiencia al presidente chileno, Sebastián Piñera, el próximo jueves, 9 de septiembre, en el que será el segundo encuentro de ambos en el Vaticano y en el marco de la gira europea del mandatario, informó hoy el Vaticano.
La reunión, que comenzará a las 10.00 horas locales (08.00 GMT), tendrá lugar en el palacio pontificio.
Este encuentro sigue al que ambos mantuvieron el 13 de octubre de 2018, que estuvo marcado sobre todo por el escándalo de los casos de pederastia y encubrimiento en el clero chileno y que se produjo justo después del viaje del papa a Chile del 15 al 18 de enero de ese mismo año.
En esta ocasión, Piñera sobre todo abordará con el papa la lucha contra la pandemia pero también la forma de avanzar en la agenda para combatir el cambio climático con las políticas impulsadas durante la Presidencia de Chile de la COP-25 y la preparación de la COP-26 en Glasgow, en donde está previsto que Francisco participe presencialmente.
La reunión con el pontífice se enmarca en la gira por Europa de Piñera que llegó hoy a Francia, donde sostendrá un encuentro con el presidente, Emmanuel Macron.
En Italia está previsto que el miércoles Piñera mantenga sendas reuniones con el presidente del Gobierno, Mario Draghi y el jefe de Estado, Sergio Mattarella.
