Los militantes y simpatizantes del oficialista Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) comenzaron a votar en las primeras horas de este domingo en las primarias, en las que el chavismo elegirá a sus candidatos para las elecciones locales y regionales del próximo 21 de noviembre.
Desde las 6 de la mañana (10.00 GMT) los primeros militantes comenzaron a organizarse para votar en las primarias de su partido que también están abiertas a simpatizantes sin carné.
La integrante de la dirección nacional del PSUV Diva Guzmán dijo al canal estatal Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) que «se activaron los centros» de votación «con las mesas electorales a lo largo y ancho de todo el país».
«Nos reportan militantes desde oriente y occidente que ha salido desde la madrugada una gran fuerza militante a ejercer su derecho a la participación», destacó.
Guzmán reiteró que las primarias están abiertas a la militancia, que cifró en 8 millones de personas inscritas, y a aquellos que no son miembros del partido.
Explicó que, en las máquinas de votación, los simpatizantes encontrarán diez nombres de mujeres y diez de hombres para elegir a los candidatos del PSUV a las gobernaciones y alcaldías.
Sin hacer mención directa a las divisiones abiertas entre precandidatos durante la campaña, en la que algunos enfrentamientos entre aspirantes han derivado incluso en peleas entre simpatizantes, Guzmán dijo que han sido «muy enfáticos (…) en ponerle límites a los excesos y al ventajismo».
Poco después de que abrieran las urnas, el presidente Nicolás Maduro pidió a todos sus militantes que voten «por el mejor candidato» y calificó las primarias como «democracia verdadera y directa».
«¡Llegó el Gran Día! (…) Vamos todos y todas a votar por el mejor candidato o candidata, a la alcaldía y la gobernación. Democracia verdadera y directa», escribió en su cuenta de Twitter.
La ministra del Interior y precandidata a la Alcaldía de Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, aseguró que este domingo se vive «una fiesta electoral» e invitó «a todo el pueblo de venezuela a que salga» a votar.
Poco después, escribió en su cuenta de Twitter que ejerció su derecho al voto «con orgullo».
«Un proceso rápido y sencillo que nos invita a todas y todos a ser parte de este día histórico, en el que el pueblo es el protagonista», apostilló.
