Estados Unidos advirtió este jueves que trabajará para prevenir cualquier acción por parte de Rusia de desestabilizar o “llevar el conflicto” de Ucrania a Latinoamérica, al reafirmar que no aceptará provocaciones, tras las insinuaciones de un alto cargo ruso de un posible despliegue militar en la región.
En una comparecencia ante el comité de Asuntos Exteriores de la Cámara de Representantes, Brian Nichols, el jefe del Departamento de Estado para Latinoamérica, señaló que no va a responder a cada “fanfarronada de Rusia”.
“Déjenme dejar claro que los esfuerzos para desestabilizar nuestro hemisferio o llevar el conflicto de Ucrania al hemisferio occidental son inaceptables. Trabajaremos con nuestros socios para prevenir eso”, aseguró.
A Nichols lo interrogaron sobre las declaraciones de enero del viceministro de Asuntos Exteriores ruso, Serguéi Riabkov, quien apuntó que entre las posibles respuestas de Moscú a las advertencias de Estados Unidos sobre la crisis en Ucrania no descartaba el despliegue de infraestructura militar en Cuba y Venezuela.
Ante ello, el funcionario estadounidense resaltó que Rusia ya “había posicionado elementos militares en el pasado” en esos países. “Solo subrayaré que, como hemisferio, no aceptamos provocaciones”, insistió Nichols, publica EFE.
La tensión entre Rusia y Occidente se disparó en el último mes por la concentración de más de 100 mil soldados rusos en la frontera con Ucrania. Moscú ha repetido en varias ocasiones que no quiere una guerra con Kiev y que no amenaza a Ucrania, mientras que EEUU y la OTAN han respondido reforzando sus posiciones en el este de Europa.
