Catar inauguró este viernes el estadio Al Thumama, uno de los ocho estadios que serán utilizados para el Mundial de Fútbol de 2022 y que cuenta con una capacidad para unas 40 mil personas.
El estadio Al Thumama, al sur de la capital catarí de Doha, fue inaugurado hoy en una celebración con música y fuegos artificiales, y es el sexto estadio completado en el que se disputará el Mundial de Catar 2022, informó la Federación de Fútbol catarí en Twitter.

Esta moderna instalación fue diseñada por el arquitecto Ibrahim Jaidah y tiene forma de ‘gafiya’, un tipo de sombrero tradicional en Oriente Medio.
El partido inaugural escogido para la apertura al público del Al Thumama fue la final de la Copa del Emir, que enfrentó a los dos clubes más grandes de Catar: el Al Rayyan, que fichó recientemente al colombiano James Rodríguez, y el Al Saad, del técnico Xavi Hernández.
A la inauguración del Al Thumama atendieron el emir de Catar, Tamim bin Hamad al Zani, y el presidente de la FIFA, el ítalo-suizo Gianni Infantino.
