La seguridad europea depende de la seguridad de Ucrania y Rusia que afrentará graves consecuencias si se atreve a invadir ese país, declaró hoy el alto representante de la Unión Europea (UE) para Asuntos Exteriores, Josep Borrell, durante una visita a la región ucraniana del Donbás.
«No es posible una seguridad en Europa sin la seguridad de Ucrania», afirmó Borrell en una rueda de prensa a pocos kilómetros de la línea de separación entre las fuerzas ucranianas y las milicias separatistas prorrusas enfrentadas desde 2014.
El representante de la diplomacia europea aseguró que «cualquier debate sobre la seguridad europea debe incluir a la UE y Ucrania».
Borrell advirtió de que el conflicto en la frontera entre Rusia y Ucrania «está a punto de agravarse y las tensiones se han ido acumulando».
«Rusia ha estado concentrando tropas y equipamiento de un modo muy inusual. Eso sucedió muy rápido», constató, al señalar que la UE, Estados Unidos y la OTAN trabajan en una respuesta conjunta en caso de que Moscú opte por la invasión a Ucrania.
«Nuestra principal preocupación es reducir las tensiones por medio de negociaciones y con nuestra firme posición de apoyo a Ucrania. Cualquier agresión militar contra Ucrania tendrá graves consecuencias», alertó.
Por su parte, el ministro Exteriores de Ucrania, Dmytro Kuleba, dijo que la visita de Borrell a Donbás es histórica porque «se ha convertido en el primer alto representante de la UE para la política exterior en visitar la zona del conflicto» entre Ucrania y Rusia.
