Unas 400.000 personas han estado atrapadas en Mariúpol durante más de dos semanas en medio de intensos bombardeos que han cortado los suministros centrales de electricidad, calefacción y agua, según las autoridades locales.
Los bombardeos, de acuerdo con las autoridades ucranianas, han estado dirigidos también contra objetivos civiles.
Por ejemplo, el ayuntamiento de Mariúpol (sureste de Ucrania) denunció el bombardeo por parte de fuerzas rusas de una escuela de arte que servía de refugio a 400 personas, entre ellos mujeres, ancianos y niños.
En un comunicado publicado en Telegram, se asegura que todavía hay gente entre los escombros y no se dan datos sobre el número de muertos y heridos.
El comunicado acusa a los rusos de cometer crímenes de guerra como ya lo había hecho el presidente Zelenski.
«El sitio de Mariúpol pasará a la historia por la responsabilidad rusa en crímenes de guerra», dijo.
Los ataques a Mariúpol se han endurecido y el Gobierno ucraniano ha admitido que actualmente no tiene posibilidad de enviar refuerzos militares.
Olexij Arestowytsch, asesor de Zelenski, dijo que las fuerzas más cercanas están a más de 100 kilómetros de distancia o ya involucradas en luchas con el enemigo.
«Actualmente no hay una solución militar para Mariupol. No es solo mi opinión, es también la opinión de los militares», dijo.
Los equipos de rescate seguían buscando sobrevivientes en un teatro de Mariúpol que, según las autoridades locales, fue arrasado por los ataques aéreos rusos el miércoles. Rusia niega haber atacado el teatro o haber atacado a civiles.
