El presidente de Ucrania, Volodímir Zelenski, aseguró este miércoles ante el Congreso de Estados Unidos que el «terror» que vive su país «es algo que Europa no ha visto en 80 años» y pidió nuevas sanciones contra todos los políticos rusos.
«Recuerden el 11 de septiembre. Ucrania está sufriendo esto todos los días. Un terror que Europa no ha visto en 80 años», dijo Zelenski en una intervención virtual ante el Congreso de EEUU, que lo recibió con una ovación.
El presidente ucraniano remarcó que «ahora mismo» el «destino» de su país «está siendo decidido», ya que el «brutal» ataque de Rusia tiene como «objetivo los valores humanos básicos» de los ucranianos.
La intervención de Zelenski se produce después de que el mandatario estadounidense, Joe Biden, firmara una ley que contempla 13 mil 600 millones de dólares en ayuda militar y humanitaria para Ucrania y los países del flanco este de la OTAN.
Zelenski agradeció el esfuerzo internacional, pero pidió a Biden «nuevos paquetes» de sanciones contra Rusia hasta que «la máquina militar rusa se detenga».
«Son necesarias restricciones contra todos sobre los que este régimen injusto está basado (…) Todos aquellos (políticos rusos) que se mantienen en sus cargos», agregó.
Insistió, asimismo, en la solicitud de que la OTAN imponga una zona de exclusión aérea en Ucrania, algo a lo que tanto Washington como la alianza se han opuesto.
Rusia inició el 24 de febrero su invasión de Ucrania y comenzó a bombardear las principales ciudades, provocando más de tres millones de refugiados, según la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM).
