El volcán de Cumbre Vieja en la isla española de La Palma sigue rugiendo 26 días después del inicio de su erupción, con una sismicidad que n aumenta en las últimas horas.
Desde la pasada medianoche se registraron en la isla un total de 60 sismos, según la información del Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), de los cuales tres han sido sentidos por la población, con intensidad máxima en la zona epicentral de IV y de III, reseñó EFE.
El seísmo de mayor magnitud de los sentidos hasta ahora ha tenido lugar en Villa de Mazo, con una magnitud de 4,5, a 37 kilómetros de profundidad, después de otro de 4,1, también en esta población, tres segundos antes que el anterior y a la misma profundidad.
El tercero mas fuerte ha tenido lugar en Fuencaliente, con una magnitud de 3,6, a 10 kilómetros de profundidad.
De acuerdo con los indicadores que monitorizan los científicos en el volcán de La Palma, sobre todo las emisiones de dióxido de azufre, todo hace pensar que el final de la erupción no se va a producir ni a corto ni a medio plazo.
El volcán está lanzando un penacho de gases a 3.000 metros de altura con cantidades elevadas de dióxido de azufre, 17.774 toneladas diarias, y esa medida tendría que bajar hasta 100 para pensar que la erupción toca a su fin, explicó este miércoles la portavoz del comité científico del Plan de emergencia volcánica de Canarias (Pevolca), María José Blanco.
La superficie afectada por la lava supera ya 640,27 hectáreas y la anchura total de las tres lenguas de lava alcanza los 1.770 metros.
