Un niño muerto en las inundaciones por el ciclón Shaheen en Omán

Un niño murió en una inundación en Omán provocada por el ciclón tropical Shaheen, anunciaron este domingo las autoridades de este país del Golfo, donde los vuelos se suspendieron y los colegios se cerraron.

Además hay una persona desaparecida por las inundaciones en Al Amarat, en la provincia de Mascate, según el comité nacional para la gestión de emergencias.

El domingo por la mañana, el epicentro del ciclón se situaba a unos 65 kilómetros de Mascate, la capital de Omán, con vientos de hasta 139 kilómetros por hora, según la autoridad de aviación civil.

Se prevé que el ciclón llegue a la costa norte de Omán el domingo por la noche.

Algunos vuelos desde y hacia Mascate se han suspendido para «evitar riesgos«, según un tuit del aeropuerto.

La autoridad de aviación civil ha pedido a la población que no vaya a las zonas de riesgo.

El domingo y el lunes se han declarado festivos «debido a las malas condiciones climáticas«, según la agencia de prensa nacional.

El ciclón también amenaza a Emiratos Árabes Unidos, un país vecino de Omán. AFP
