Un mural con los rostros de Gloria y su esposo Emilio Estefan se inauguró en la Pequeña Habana por una fundación que busca embellecer este barrio de gran población cubana en Miami y enaltecer a líderes y personalidades cubanoestadounidenses.
El mural estuvo a cargo del artista local conocido como Disem 305, quien dibujó unos Estefan jóvenes en una de las paredes de La Casa de los Trucos. El sitio es una histórica tienda cubana de disfraces sobre la conocida Calle Ocho que «donó» el muro, reseñó EFE.
La Fundación Kcull inauguró este fin de semana el mural para brindar tributo a los «Emperadores del pop latino». Así lo señaló en un comunicado la organización sin ánimo de grupo.
El mural está cerca de otro que rinde tributo a la Reina de la salsa, Celia Cruz.
La historia de los Estefan
Kcull recordó que la música unió a los Estefan desde que Emilio era en 1975 el teclista de la banda Miami Latin Boys. Después cambiaría al icónico Miami Sound Machine.
Muy pronto Gloria fue la vocalista principal de un grupo que alcanzaría la fama y la fortuna. Allí produjo algunos de los 10 éxitos más memorables de las décadas de los 80 y 90.
Ambos se consolidaron como una de las parejas más productivas, creativas y socialmente comprometidas de la industria musical estadounidense, latina e internacional.
Giovanni Borace, artísticamente conocido como Disem 305, es un célebre artista e ilustrador de origen panameño. Su trabajo resalta por sus vibrantes murales con retratos fotorrealistas inspirado en el Art Deco rosa y verde azulado.
La fundación señaló que la obra unirá a toda una comunidad con la tienda de disfraces más antigua de Miami, «un establecimiento de culto que tiene sus raíces en la Cuba de 19202».
Enfatizó que estos esfuerzos artísticos «son un camino hacia la recuperación social y económica de distritos desatendidos, pero históricos».
