Por otro lado, el número de contagios del 18 al 25 de julio aumentó un 8 % con respecto a la semana anterior, es decir, se registraron unos 3,8 millones de nuevos casos, debido sobre todo al incremento en América, de un 30 %, y en el Pacífico occidental, de un 25 %.
Con todo esto, el número total de contagios desde que comenzó la pandemia alcanzó los 194,6 millones y los decesos han llegado a los 4.170.155, mientras que se han administrado casi 3.700 millones de dosis de vacunas en todo el mundo, según los datos de la OMS.
En la última semana, los países que registraron un mayor número de nuevos contagios fueron Estados Unidos, Brasil, Indonesia, Reino Unido e India.
La variante Delta del coronavirus, una de las que más preocupa a la OMS, se identificó en la última semana en 8 nuevos países, con lo que ya se encuentra en 132.
