Twitter anunció este martes pérdidas por valor de 403 millones de dólares entre enero y septiembre de 2021, frente a los mil 357 millones de dólares que perdió en el mismo periodo del año pasado, a la vez que anunció un incremento continuado de usuarios, que han alcanzado los 211 millones.
La empresa, con sede en San Francisco, aumentó su facturación en un 44 % y pasó de los 2 mil 427 millones en los primeros nueve meses de 2020 a los 3 mil 510 millones del mismo periodo del año actual, lo que explica a su vez el recorte registrado en pérdidas.
Casi la totalidad de estos ingresos, poco más de un 88 %, provienen de la venta de espacios publicitarios en la red social, mientras que el 12% restante lo gana vendiendo datos a terceros.
Entre enero y septiembre de 2021, los accionistas de Twitter perdieron 51 centavos de dólar por título, frente a las pérdidas de 1,73 dólares correspondientes al mismo periodo del año pasado.
En el tercer trimestre, el más seguido hoy por los analistas de Wall Street, la firma que dirige Jack Dorsey registró unas pérdidas de 536 millones de dólares, frente a las ganancias de 28 millones en el mismo cuarto del año pasado.
211 millones de usuarios activos
En la actualidad, la red social del pájaro azul tiene 211 millones de usuarios activos diarios (es decir, que se conectan por lo menos una vez al día) en todo el mundo, un 13 % más que en el tercer trimestre de 2021.
La compañía subrayó en un comunicado que se trata de una aceleración en el crecimiento de usuarios desde el segundo cuarto del año, cuando se registró un incremento del 11 % comparado con el mismo periodo del año pasado.
Este aumento se debe, según Twitter, a «una continuada mejora de los productos y la conversación global en torno a eventos de la actualidad».
Pese a las pérdidas registradas en el tercer trimestre, la red social dijo estar «contenta» con sus resultados empresariales, «con un aumento de ingresos del 37 % interanual, lo que refleja fortaleza en todos los principales productos y zonas geográficas», destacó el jefe financiero de Twitter, Ned Segal.
