Poco antes de que entrara en vigencia en México la exigencia de visa para los venezolanos, en la frontera norte del país se registró una tragedia cuando la niña Victoria Lugo Mayor, originaria de Venezuela, se ahogó en el Río Bravo al intentar junto a otros migrantes ingresar ilegalmente a Estados Unidos.
Victoria, de 7 años, murió la mañana del 18 de enero en las frías aguas del río fronterizo cuando intentaba atravesarlo junto a su madre Mayerlin Mayor y otros migrantes.
Mayor, una maestra venezolana de 36 años, logró salvarse gracias a que otro de los migrantes que iba en el grupo la auxilió y la llevó a hasta la orilla del territorio estadounidense.
“Da mucho dolor… es un golpe muy fuerte para la familia”, afirmó Guillermo Castillo, tío de Victoria, al confirmar vía telefónica desde de la ciudad de Maracaibo, al occidente de Venezuela, el deceso de la niña, reseñó AP.
El ayudante de cocina de una gabarra petrolera de 50 años, relató que Mayor decidió irse a Estados Unidos ante el deterioro de las condiciones de vida en su natal Maracaibo, una ciudad petrolera sumida en una profunda crisis por constantes apagones y fallas en los servicios de agua y gas. Además, debido a que su salario como maestra pública no le alcanzaba ante la desbocada inflación de tres dígitos que golpea a la nación suramericana.
“Uno tiene que tratar de salir y darle la oportunidad a los hijos porque aquí lastimosamente, aquí no hay futuro”, agregó.
“Era la alegría de la casa”, expresó el tío al recordar a la pequeña.
Castillo dijo desconocer cuanto pagó su cuñada para que la llevaran hasta Estados Unidos, pero admitió que fue mucho dinero y que por ello nadie de la familia pudo acompañarla. “No hay como irse. Sacar pasaporte, una visa. No hay ahorita ese dinero porque lo que uno agarra es para medio comer”, señaló.
El gobierno de Andrés Manuel López Obrador, que es cercano a la administración del mandatario venezolano Nicolás Maduro, impuso la exigencia para detener el creciente del flujo de venezolanos que huyen de la crisis económica y social que golpea al país suramericano, y que usan a México como puente para ingresar ilegalmente a Estados Unidos.
“Este caso de la niña pone de manifiesto el drama que viven los venezolanos quienes se ven obligados a dejar nuestro país. Lo doloroso es que así será la tragedia tan grande que ellos son capaces de arriesgar su vida”, afirmó Carlos Vecchio, representante diplomático del opositor Juan Guaidó en Washington, quien precisó que durante el 2021 se reportó el ingreso ilegal a territorio estadounidense de unos 80.000 venezolanos, cifra que supera en más de seis veces el registro del año anterior.
De acuerdo a cifras de Naciones Unidas en los últimos años han salido de Venezuela más de seis millones de personas, que representan más del 10 % de su población.
Vecchio descartó que la exigencia de visa de México vaya a evitar que los venezolanos sigan utilizando el país latinoamericano como puente para entrar a Estados Unidos, e indicó que mientras no se atienda la raíz del problema, que aseguró que es la crisis generada por el Gobierno de Venezuela, “no habrá manera de parar el éxodo”.
Señaló que funcionarios de su oficina entraron en contacto con las autoridades estadounidenses y mexicanas para los trámites de traslado del cuerpo de Victoria desde Ciudad Acuña hacia Estados Unidos donde se encuentra su madre, proceso que aún no es realizado.
