The Weeknd se enfrenta a sus demonios en el inquietante vídeo de «Gasoline»

The Weeknd estrenó este martes el inquietante videoclip de “Gasoline”, uno de los temas incluidos en su más reciente disco, “Dawn FM”, que se publicó el pasado viernes y que representa una metafórica espera en el purgatorio a la espera de la llamada celestial.

Este vídeo en concreto es una producción dirigida por Matilda Finn que toma el relevo al relato iniciado con su primer sencillo, “Take My Breath”, estrenado en agosto, y presenta al músico canadiense caracterizado como un anciano que, tras su muerte, se enfrenta a sus demonios.

The Weeknd es literalmente apaleado por una versión más joven de sí mismo en medio de una fiesta desbocada de baile y deseo desenfrenado, entre luces tenebristas que muestran la peor cara de sus participantes, convertidos en bestias.

Según explicó en una entrevista, todo el disco de “Dawn FM” fue concebido como si el paso por el purgatorio fuese un atasco amenizado por una emisora, la que da nombre al álbum, en la que se ayuda al finado a hacer examen de conciencia en su tránsito “hacia la luz”.

En una nueva vuelta de tuerca de los ritmos habituales de la mercadotecnica discográfica, el videoclip de “Gasoline” se ha publicado tras la salida al mercado del quinto álbum de estudio del artista, la cual a su vez se produjo recién concluida la intensa campaña de ventas navideña y tras un escueto anuncio previo en sus redes unos pocos días antes.

En el mismo han colaborado los prestigiosos iconos del hip hop Tyler The Creator y Lil Wayne, así como Oneohtrix Point Never, coproductor y compositor junto a The Weeknd de gran parte de los temas, además del actor Jim Carrey, que ejerce de locutor de la ficticia emisora.

En el repertorio aparece también el veterano Quincy Jones, productor de los discos más emblemáticos de Michael Jackson: “Off The Wall”, “Thriller” y “Bad”, cuya impronta se deja sentir vivamente en estas canciones que abrazan asimismo la electrónica bailable de figuras como Calvin Harris.
