Una escena inédita de la nueva película de The Batman fue revelada el jueves por su director, Matt Reeves. En la secuencia, que se extiende por algo más de cinco minutos, se ve por primera vez al Batman de Robert Pattinson cara a cara -separados apenas por un vidrio-, con el Guasón, personificado por Barry Keoghan.
Al mismo tiempo, es la primera vez que se menciona de manera explícita la presencia del Guasón en esta nueva versión de Batman.
El encuentro se produce en el Asilo Akhram, donde permanecen encerrados los villanos más peligrosos y enajenados de Ciudad Gótica, y tiene cierto parecido con uno de los momentos clave de El silencio de los inocentes. El propio Reeves reconoció haber recurrido a esa película como marco referencial de este momento que quedó afuera del montaje final de Batman: para capturar a un asesino serial y entender sus propósitos no hay mejor ayuda que la de una mente criminal de características similares.
La escena completa comenzó a circular al mediodía y ya está disponible en YouTube (por ahora solo en inglés y sin subtítulos disponibles) y en casi todos los sitios especializados en cine y superhéroes. Pero quien tenga ganas de llegar a ella a través de un juego mucho más cercano a la trama de Batman tiene la posibilidad de hacerlo por medio del sitio rataalada.com, nombre que hace referencia a un juego de palabras que aparece en la película.
Allí se propone al visitante un juego interactivo que reproduce las adivinanzas y juegos de palabras del Acertijo (Paul Dano), villano clásico de la historia de Batman y su máximo enemigo en esta nueva aventura cinematográfica. Para llegar al video hay que contestar tres preguntas sucesivas.
“Este es casi nuestro aniversario, ¿no es así?, le pregunta el Guasón a Batman en un momento de la escena recién revelada. Batman le dice que está tras los pasos de un asesino serial. “Creo que en algún lugar, en el fondo, también sientes miedo porque no estás seguro de que él esté equivocado”, agrega el Guasón, insinuando que Batman no estaría del todo disconforme con la estrategia del Acertijo de señalar a los funcionarios más corruptos de Ciudad Gótica antes de eliminarlos.
En otro tramo, el Guasón le dice a Batman que al Acertijo le encantan los rompecabezas. “Es muy meticuloso, como si hubiera estado planeando esto toda su vida”, dice, antes de caracterizarlo como un “don nadie” que quiere ser alguien y tiene motivaciones “muy, muy personales”.
La escena que acaba de aparecer fue anticipada y explicada por Reeves en las semanas previas al estreno de la película. Dijo el director que debe ser ubicada dentro de la trama después del momento en que el Acertijo mata al comisionado de policía de Ciudad Gótica Pete Savage (Alex Ferns). Junto a su cuerpo, el asesino deja una de sus clásicas notas con pistas en forma de enigmas para que Batman las devele.
Con la intención de saber más sobre la estrategia del Acertijo y anticipar sus próximos pasos, cuenta Reeves, Batman decide visitar al Guasón (The Joker, en la versión original) en el lugar donde se encuentra confinado por su peligrosidad.
“Pensé que Batman iba a estar muy inseguro respecto de sus siguientes pasos y que también, muy probablemente, querría encontrar alguna manera de entrar en la mente del Acertijo, como ocurre en Manhunter o Mindhunter. Es la idea de configurar a una persona para adelantarse a lo que está por hacer”, señaló el director de Batman a Variety.
La escena, según agregó Reeves, deja insinuada la idea de que Batman y el Guasón están relacionados de alguna manera por hechos que ocurrieron en el pasado. También sugeriría que el Guasón permanece encerrado en Arkham porque fue el propio Batman quien logró detenerlo. Lo que Batman quiere saber es por qué el Acertijo deja notas y mensajes dirigidos a él después de cometer cada golpe o asesinato.
Toda esta revelación, en definitiva, se conecta con el momento real en el final de la película en que vemos aparecer al Guasón, y también lo explica. Sobre todo porque hasta ahora Reeves había jugado de manera enigmática con esa revelación, hablando figuradamente de un “prisionero invisible” encerrado en el asilo. En los créditos finales de la película, Keoghan aparece personificando a un “prisionero secreto de Arkham”, según publica La Nación de Argentina.
“Esta no es una historia sobre el origen de Batman sino sobre sus primeros pasos y también el de los integrantes de la galería de personajes que interactúan con él. Selina Kyle todavía no es Gatúbela, Oz Cobblepot todavía no se convirtió en el Pingüino. Y en el caso de ese prisionero invisible tenemos la idea de que tampoco se convirtió en lo que todos sabemos que es. Lo que sí está claro es que Batman y este personaje se conocen, tienen un vínculo previo”, había adelantado también Reeves semanas antes del estreno.
Tras conocerse la escena inmediatamente aparecieron las especulaciones sobre cuál fue la verdadera intención de Reeves y de Warner al revelarla.
¿Será acaso un primer y velado adelanto de alguna de las series que el estudio prepara para la plataforma HBO Max? Una de ellas tiene como eje el propio Asilo Arkham, lugar de detención de los más siniestros y oscuros rivales de Batman, y lleva ese nombre como título. ¿Será Arkham el lugar en el que se contará, dentro de este universo, la historia del Guasón?
