El director italiano Paolo Sorrentino, Oscar en 2014 con «La gran belleza«, arrancó lágrimas este jueves en Venecia, con «Fue la mano de Dios«, un filme autobiográfico ambientado en la turbulenta Nápoles natal y dedicado en parte a su ídolo, el argentino Diego Armando Maradona.
«Hice lo que pude. No creo haberlo hecho mal«, es la frase de Maradona que inspira el nuevo y esperado filme del realizador italiano, quien compite junto con otras 20 cintas en la sección oficial del festival de Venecia.
El consagrado director, de 51 años, considerado entre los autores más relevantes del cine europeo, heredero del mágico estilo de Federico Fellini, regresa a su ciudad para narrar la historia de su adolescencia y de su vocación de cineasta en circunstancias trágicas.
Con un retrato a la vez alegre y doloroso de los personajes que conforman su infancia y adolescencia en la Nápoles de la década de los ochenta, Sorrentino logra compartir su dolor por la trágica e inesperada muerte de sus padres y develar el nacimiento de su universo, tan personal y único, con monjes enanos, tías sensuales, bromas pesadas, zambullidas en el mar, paseos en lancha.
«Me conmovió realizar esta película. La he visto 40 veces y todas las veces me emociono con algunas escenas específicas«, confesó el director en una charla con los medios de comunicación, entre ellos la AFP.
«Lo que más me conmueve son las escenas en las que el chico parece tan indefenso«, recalca al referirse probablemente a una de las secuencias más dramáticas, de rabia incontenible, cuando le impiden en el hospital ver los cuerpos del padre y la madre.
«En la vida, despedirse, decir adiós a la gente es muy importante. Si simplemente desaparecen, es como si nunca se hubieran ido«, confiesa.
Maradona le salvó la vida
Si bien el personaje central se llama Fabietto Schisa, es evidente que se trata del joven Paolo Sorrentino, que adora el fútbol, no tiene amigos y su mundo gira en torno a la familia, los vecinos y la pasión por el club de fútbol Nápoles.
«Para mí, de niño, lo más importante que pasó en ese momento fue que Maradona fue contratado por Nápoles (…) Con él aprendí lo que es el arte, porque Maradona no fue simplemente un futbolista, sino que supo trascender la realidad. Fue mi primera oportunidad de acercarme al arte«, explicó.
El realizador se refiere a los años en que el astro argentino jugó en Nápoles y al famoso y mítico gol con la mano que Maradona marcó con la selección Argentina en el partido de cuartos de final contra Inglaterra del Mundial de México de 1986 y que atribuyó a la mano de Dios, frase que da origen al título del filme.
Ovacionada en sus primeros pases ante la prensa, la película de Sorrentino transmite la idea de que de alguna forma Maradona le salvó su vida, porque al no viajar con los padres a la casa en la montaña y preferir ver el partido de fútbol del Nápoles, evitó morir junto a ellos en el sueño por una fuga de gas.
«El mensaje de la película es que hay un futuro para todos sin importar el sufrimiento y el dolor que experimentaron en la vida. Espero que los jóvenes puedan entender esto porque… están más preocupados que nosotros por el futuro«, resumió.
Con su actor fetiche Toni Servillo, en el papel de padre funcionario de banco, el filme de Sorrentino, producido por Netflix, entra en liza por el León de Oro.
El gigante de la industria audiovisual, que salió fortalecido con la pandemia, pisa fuerte en la carrera por el máximo galardón, después del obtenido con «Roma» en 2018, del mexicano Alfonso Cuarón.
Al contrario del festival francés de Cannes, Venecia invitó también a concursar el filme producido por Netflix «El poder del perro», que marca el regreso al cine de la neozelandesa Jane Campion tras más de 20 años.
