Las delegaciones rusa y ucraniana comenzaron hoy las negociaciones en Pripiat, en la frontera ucraniano-bielorrusa, en las que Kiev intentará lograr un alto el fuego por parte de Rusia tras cinco días de guerra.
El inicio de la reunión fue transmitido en directo por la agencia oficial bielorrusa BELTA.
El ministro de Exteriores de Bielorrusia, Vladímir Makéi, saludó a las delegaciones, a las que trasladó el deseó del presidente de su país, Alexandr Lukashenko, de que durante las negociaciones sea posible encontrar formas de resolver «los problemas».
«Pueden sentirse completamente seguros. ¡Este es nuestro deber sagrado», señaló Makéi.
El tema clave de las conversaciones para la parte ucraniana es lograr un alto el fuego inmediato en la guerra que lanzó Rusia hace cinco días en Ucrania y la retirada de las tropas de Ucrania, en tanto que para Rusia es importante abordar la posibilidad de que el país vecino adopte un estatus neutral con respecto a la OTAN, reseña EFE.
El presidente ucraniano, Volodímir Zelenski, instó horas antes en un videomensaje -en el que se dirigió a los soldados rusos- a abandonar Ucrania y deponer las armas.
«Lo digo una vez más: cuatro mil 500 ocupantes rusos han caído. Deseche su equipo. Salgan de aquí. No confíes en tus comandantes. No confíes en tus propagandistas. Solo salven sus vida», afirmó.
Rusia ha afirmado que las negociaciones no implican que detenga la ofensiva.
La delegación ucraniana incluye al ministro de Defensa, Oleksii Réznikov, al líder de la fracción del partido oficial «El Siervo del Pueblo», David Arakhamia, el asesor presidencial Mykhailo Podoliak, al jefe adjunto de la delegación ucraniana en el Grupo de Contacto Trilateral para la paz en el Donbás, Andriy Kostin, el diputado Rustem Umerov y el viceministro de Exteriores, Mykola Tochytsky.
Del lado ruso han acudido al encuentro Vladímir Medinski, asistente del presidente de Rusia, el viceministro de Exteriores Andréi Rudenko, un viceministro de Defensa, el presidente del Comité de Asuntos Internacionales de la Duma (Cámara Baja) Leonid Slutski.
