Un superpetrolero iraní que transportaba alrededor de 2 millones de barriles de condensado comenzó a descargar esta semana en el principal puerto petrolero de la petrolera estatal venezolana PDVSA, según un documento de la compañía y los servicios de seguimiento de petroleros.
PDVSA y la estatal Compañía Nacional de Petróleo de Irán (NIOC) iniciaron en la segunda mitad del año pasado un acuerdo para intercambiar condensado iraní por crudo pesado de PDVSA. El pacto demostró ser clave para sostener la producción de petróleo de Venezuela, que necesita diluyentes, incluido el condensado, para el transporte y las exportaciones.
El año pasado, las dos empresas estatales que están bajo sanciones estadounidenses intercambiaron unos 4,82 millones de barriles de condensado por 5,55 millones de barriles de crudo pesado, en su mayoría transportados en buques con bandera de Irán. El condensado es un aceite extremadamente ligero.
Los aliados también intercambiaron gasolina iraní por combustible para aviones venezolano a través de un acuerdo que comenzó en 2020 y ayudó a aliviar la escasez de combustibles para motores en la nación sudamericana.
El buque petrolero muy grande de bandera iraní (VLCC) Starla, propiedad y administrado por la estatal Compañía Nacional de Petroleros Iraníes (NITC), llegó a aguas venezolanas el viernes, según un cronograma de importaciones y exportaciones de PDVSA visto por Reuters.
El buque, que apagó su transpondedor en diciembre antes de partir del puerto iraní de Tombak, fue asistido por remolcadores el lunes en su aproximación al puerto José de PDVSA, según el servicio de monitoreo TankerTrackers.com, que también confirmó su identidad.
PDVSA y NIOC, la empresa matriz de la compañía cisterna NITC, no respondieron de inmediato a las solicitudes de comentarios.
Como parte de los términos del canje, se esperaba la entrega de condensado en diciembre, pero la falta de almacenamiento de petróleo y los cuellos de botella en José generaron demoras, según documentos internos de PDVSA.
La falta de capacidad de almacenamiento en tierra, que ha obligado a PDVSA desde el año pasado a recurrir al almacenamiento flotante, también llevó a la compañía a reanudar recientemente las exportaciones de crudo diluido , una mezcla de petróleo extrapesado y condensado importado, a Asia.
