El cono principal del volcán se ha derrumbado parcialmente según el Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias archpiiélago del Atlántico donde se encuentra La Palma, y un sismógrafo del IGN informó de una emisión de coladas más al oeste del cono secundario, que en las últimas horas sufrió varios desbordes de lava.
Los derrames han ensanchado la colada que más preocupa en estos momentos, la que se ha quedado parada en el barrio de la localidad de La Laguna, con riesgo para edificaciones y cultivos.
Hasta el momento, el volcán ha arrasado cerca de 900 hectáreas y ha destruido unas 2.200 edificaciones, muchas de ellas viviendas, según datos del sistema de satélites Copernicus. Además, unas 7.000 personas tuvieron que ser desalojadas desde el comienzo de la emergencia.
