Recomiendan vacuna de Johnson&Johnson en países donde circula la variante del COVID-19

Johnson & Johnson en EL PAÍS

La vacuna anti-covid de Johnson&Johnson se recomienda incluso en los países donde circulan las variantes de coronavirus más contagiosas, dijeron el miércoles expertos de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).

“Recomendamos la utilización en los países donde la propagación de variantes es alta y en los países donde tenemos ahora información sobre el uso de esta vacuna para controlar el SARS-Cov-2 causado por estas variantes”, declaró Alejandro Cravioto, presidente del grupo de expertos de la OMS.

Cravioto dio cuenta este miércoles de las recomendaciones adoptadas en la reunión del lunes por el Grupo Asesor Estratégico de Expertos de la OMS (SAGE) sobre inmunización.

La vacuna desarrollada por Johnson&Johnson fue aprobada por la OMS el viernes pasado.

En general, “después de examinar los datos, tenemos una vacuna que es segura”, dijo Cravioto.

La vacuna se recomienda a partir de los 18 años y “sin límite de edad”, agregó.

En enero, Johnson&Johnson anunció que su vacuna tenía una efectividad del 66% contra el COVID-19.

Esta vacuna es la primera aprobada por la OMS que requiere solo una inyección en lugar de dos, además de poder almacenarse a temperatura de refrigerador.

La vacuna de Johnson&Johnson fue autorizada con urgencia en los Estados Unidos desde finales de febrero.

A principios de marzo fue aprobada en Canadá y el 11 de marzo en la Unión Europea.
