Venezuela llegó a 31 clasificados olímpicos este lunes, con la oficialización de los cupos de los primeros dos pesistas, Julio Mayora y Yusleidy Figueroa, quienes lograron su pase por ranking mundial en dos categorías de peso cada uno.
La Federación Internacional de Levantamiento de Pesas (IWF, por sus siglas en inglés) dirigió este lunes una comunicación a su par nacional y al Comité Olímpico Venezolano, en la que hizo oficial la clasificación de Mayora en 67 kilogramos y 73 kilogramos, y la de Figueroa en 59 kilogramos y 64 kilogramos, a la espera de una respuesta de cuál será la división en la que asista cada uno.
“Es una alegría demasiado grande porque habíamos trabajando bastante para este logro, no sé cómo explicar la emoción“, celebró Yusleidy Figueroa desde Cali, donde la selección se encuentra concentrada.
«Habíamos trabajado bastante por lograr el cupo desde el primer momento, pensaba todos los días en eso, cada entrenamiento y cada competencia intentaba dar lo mejor para no quedarme atrás y poder estar entre las ocho mejores del mundo, y no por cupo continental», agregó la pesista.
“Todavía faltan algunos pasos para seguir sumando, pero poco a poco vamos avanzando“, festejó el presidente de la FVLP Luis Seijas, quien anunció que los atletas asistirán en las categorías donde tienen mejor opción: Mayora en 73 kilogramos y Figueroa en 59 kilogramos.
El equipo realizará la parte final de su preparación en Rusia. “Es una de las bases de preparación más completas del mundo, con una gran cantidad de equipamiento, muchas comodidades y relativamente económica, en comparación con otros países desarrollados“, explicó Seijas, quien agregó que la base servirá para comenzar la adaptación al huso horario de Japón.
