Paquita la del Barrio será galardonada con el premio a la Trayectoria Artística durante la ceremonia de los Premios Billboard de la Música Latina que se llevará a cabo el próximo 23 de septiembre en Miami y en la que también cantará este ícono y expresión de la cultura popular mexicana.
Estos premios reconocerán su «trayectoria excepcional, abarcando contribuciones artísticas y personales que marcaron el desarrollo de la música latina en el mundo», subrayaron este jueves en un comunicado la organización de los Billboard y Telemundo, la cadena hispana que transmitirá la premiación.
Conocida como la Reina del Pueblo o la Guerrillera del Bolero, la intérprete se unirá así a emblemáticas figuras que recibió este premio, entre ellas los mexicanos Armando Manzanero, José José y Marco Antonio Solís, el español Miguel Bosé y el brasileño Roberto Carlos.
La organización de los Billboard destacó que la mexicana tiene más de 50 años como intérprete de música ranchera y boleros, con temas que denuncian especialmente la cultura y actitudes machistas.
Originaria de Veracruz, Francisca Viveros -nombre real de la cantante- descubrió desde niña su potente voz y talento para la música mientras cantaba con frecuencia en los festivales escolares.
En la década de los años 1970 formó el dueto Las Golondrinas junto a su hermana Viola, y en 1984 grabó su primer disco, El Barrio de los faroles, con el que fue bautizada como Paquita la del Barrio.
Su popularidad creció rápidamente y su restaurante Casa Paquita, donde ella misma cantaba, se convirtió en paso obligado para artistas y figuras de la música, desde Joaquín Sabina hasta Luis Miguel.
La cantante ha grabado 33 discos con ventas que superan las 30 millones de copias, y entre sus temas se destacan Tres veces te engañé, Rata de dos patas, Las rodilleras, Las mujeres mandan, La última parada, Me saludas a la tuya, Soltero maduro, chiquito y Hombres malvados.
