El papa Francisco se mostró hoy partidario de leyes civiles para defender los derechos de los homosexuales pero no del «matrimonio», que para la Iglesia es la unión entre un hombre y una mujer, según dijo en la rueda de prensa durante el vuelo de regreso de su gira por Budapest y Eslovaquia.
«He hablado claro sobre esto. El matrimonio es un sacramento de la Iglesia y no se puede cambiar, pero hay leyes que intentan ayudar a la situación de tanta gente de orientación sexual diferente y esto es importante. Que se les ayude, pero sin imponer cosas a la Iglesia que por su naturaleza no se pueden», aclaró Francisco a los periodistas a bordo del avión.
El papa subrayó también que «si (una pareja homosexual) quiere llevar un vida juntos, los Estados tienen posibilidad de civilmente apoyarles, con el tema de la salud, de la herencia…».
«Son hermanos y hermanas y les tenemos que acompañar. Pero el matrimonio es claro», agregó.
El pontífice puso el ejemplo del Pacto Civil de Solidaridad (Pacs) que existe en Francia sobre los derechos para las parejas de homosexuales, pero «el matrimonio como sacramento es entre hombre y mujer y no se puede hacer que la Iglesia reniegue de su verdad».
Asimismo explicó que existen muchas personas homosexuales que «se acercan al sacramento de la penitencia» y «piden consejo al sacerdote» y «la iglesia los ayuda a ir adelante», pero, recalcó, «el sacramento es el sacramento».
El papa ya había expresado este concepto en un documental reciente, pero, sin embargo, poco después el Vaticano publicó una nota aclaratoria para recordar que la Iglesia católica «no puede impartir su bendición a las uniones de personas del mismo sexo», después de que en algunos ambientes eclesiásticos hayan surgido dudas sobre este tema.
«No es lícito impartir una bendición a relaciones, o a parejas incluso estables, que implican una praxis sexual fuera del matrimonio (es decir, fuera de la unión indisoluble de un hombre y una mujer abierta, por sí misma, a la transmisión de la vida), como es el caso de las uniones entre personas del mismo sexo», escribía en ese documento la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe.
