La apertura de un juicio político se comenzó a dejar escuchar desde este lunes sobre el presidente de Chile, el conservador Sebastián Piñera, luego de que la investigación Papeles de Pandora revelara supuestas irregularidades en la venta realizada en Islas Vírgenes Británicas de sus acciones en un proyecto minero, reseñó EFE.
Piñera, quien dejará el cargo en marzo de 2022, calificó la publicación de “inaceptable” y aseguró que todos los hechos desvelados por el Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas de Investigación (ICIJ) ya fueron investigados y desestimados en los tribunales en 2017.
“Como presidente de la República jamás he dejado de privilegiar el interés público, el bien común, por sobre cualquier otro interés y, de hecho, el hecho de ser presidente me ha significado perjuicios en lo personal y no beneficios”, afirmó el gobernante en una rueda de prensa en La Moneda (sede de Gobierno).
Desde la oposición, sin embargo, ya hablan de impulsar una acusación constitucional (juicio político) contra el que está considerado el dueño de una de las mayores fortunas de Chile, con casi 3.000 millones de dólares de patrimonio.
“Lo único que cabe es una acusación constitucional y su destitución inmediata. Hay dos firmas para una acusación constitucional que requiere de 10. Faltan ocho diputados para hacer lo que hay que hacer”, anunció Pamela Jiles, del Partido Humanista.
“Un presidente que transa con sus socios la dignidad de los chilenos, que especula a costa del medioambiente, que usa su poder para fines propios y que evade impuestos en el proceso, es un presidente que no debe continuar en el cargo. Estamos evaluando acciones”, dijo la diputada Claudia Mix, del izquierdista Comunes.
La acusación constitucional puede desembocar en la destitución o la inhabilitación para ejercer cargos públicos del acusado y para que prospere se requiere la mayoría absoluta en la Cámara de Diputados.
De presentarme finalmente, sería el segundo intento de juzgar políticamente al gobernante, tras el fallido conato de noviembre de 2019 por presuntas violaciones a los derechos humanos en medio de las masivas protestas contra la desigualdad, las más graves desde el fin de la dictadura militar.
Diversos expertos, en tanto, alertan de que la acusación constitución no sería viable pues los hechos cuestionados ocurrieron al inicio de su primer mandato (2010-2014).
La minera vendida a un amigo
Una investigación del ICIJ, en colaboración con los medios chilenos CIPER y LaBot, reveló este domingo que una parte del proyecto Minera Dominga (138 millones de dólares) se vendió en 2010 al empresario y amigo de la familia presidencial Carlos Alberto Délano en una operación realizada en Islas Vírgenes Británicas.
El pago supuestamente debía producirse en tres cuotas, pero la última estaba condicionada a que la zona donde iba a levantarse Dominga no fuera declarada de protección ambiental, algo que finalmente se cumplió, según el ICIJ.
El mandatario aseguró que la venta de la minera, que aún no está en construcción y que compromete una inversión de 2.500 millones de dólares, la realizó su fideicomiso ciego y que él no fue ni consultado ni informado “precisamente para evitar cualquier asomo de conflicto de intereses”.
“Desde el mes de abril del año 2009, hace ya más de 12 años, y antes de asumir mi primera presidencia, me desligué absoluta y totalmente de la administración y gestión de las empresas familiares y de cualquier otra empresa en que hubiere participado”, agregó.
De acuerdo al periódico local La Tercera, el fiscal nacional, Jorge Abbot, instruyó a la Unidad Anticorrupción analizar los antecedentes que existen sobre la millonaria compraventa de la Minera Dominga por si existieran indicios de delito.
El oficialismo se ha cuadrado en torno a Piñera, aunque los papeles de Pandora amenazan con enturbiar la carrera presidencial del candidato oficialista, el exministro Sebastián Sichel, quien solamente dijo el domingo en Twitter que “se requiere ir más allá de lo legal y dar todas las explicaciones necesarias”.
Piñera es, junto al ecuatoriano Guillermo Lasso y el dominicano Luis Abinader, uno de los tres presidentes latinoamericanos en activo salpicados por esta investigación, que ha vuelto a remecer al mundo después de los papeles de Panamá de 2016.

the exact same comment. There has to be a way you can remove me from that
