La dosis de refuerzo de esta vacuna se aplicará primero a los grupos de riesgo, como ancianos y personal sanitario, entre cuatro y seis meses después de haber completado la pauta.
Los expertos de la OMS instaron a los países con cobertura de la vacuna más baja a que se centren primero en aumentarla en los grupos de más riesgo antes de ofrecerla a los de menos riesgo.
En países con cobertura de media a alta en grupos de riesgo, la prioridad debería ser ofrecer la dosis de refuerzo a estos antes que inmunizar con la pauta completa a los de menor prioridad.
El SAGE calificó de «anuncios positivos» las previsiones de producción de dosis para este año y considera que debería garantizar el suministro de vacunas a nivel global.
«El número de dosis mensuales previstas es suficiente para cubrir los distintos escenarios de cobertura de los distintos países, incluidas las dosis de refuerzo», señaló en rueda de prensa virtual la directora del Departamento de Inmunización de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), Kate O’Brien.
O’Brien matizó no obstante que eso solo será posible en caso de que la distribución de vacunas deje de ser «desigual» y no se repitan las limitaciones de suministro.
La cobertura en 34 países es todavía inferior al 10 % de la población total, mientras que en 86 se sitúa alrededor del 40 %, debido a la acumulación de dosis producida el año pasado por algunos países, recordó la experta de la OMS.
