Según informó el Servicio Nacional de Meteorología, la tormenta comenzará en la costa de Carolina del Norte y avanzará hacia el área Nueva Inglaterra, donde este sábado se prevén condiciones de ventisca en áreas cercanas al mar antes de que el fenómeno pierda fuerza el domingo.
Lo peor se espera al este de Long Island (Nueva York) y en la línea costera desde Cape Cod (Massachussetts) hasta el sureste de Maine, con hasta 60 centímetros de nieve acumulada, lo que ha puesto en alerta a las autoridades y hará «casi imposible» cualquier viaje, advierten.
Las aerolíneas cancelaron con anticipación numerosos vuelos con origen y destino en los aeropuertos más importantes desde Carolina del Norte hasta Maine, pasando por Nueva York, unos mil este viernes y más de dos mil este sábado, de acuerdo a datos del portal FlightAware.
Las temperaturas caerán especialmente el sábado en todo el noreste debido al viento frío, pero en algunos puntos de Maine pueden bajar hasta los 30 grados celsius bajo cero y provocar «congelación en la piel expuesta en tan poco tiempo como 30 minutos», de acuerdo a un aviso local.
