El cantante puertorriqueño Paquito Guzmán, uno de los máximos exponentes de la salsa romántica en el mundo y con gran éxito en Suramérica, falleció este jueves a los 82 años de edad tras una larga batalla contra el cáncer.
Frank Guzmán Geigel, conocido en la industria de la música como Paquito Guzmán, murió en su hogar en el municipio puertorriqueño de Toa Baja rodeado de su esposa e hijos, según informó la familia del intérprete, reseñó EFE.
“Han sido muchas las muestras y llamadas que hemos recibido, por eso pedimos espacio para procesar este triste momento. Pedimos un poco de tiempo para asimilar esta dura pérdida”, indicó una de sus nietas, portavoz de la familia.
La portavoz agradeció el apoyo “de Puerto Rico y de todos los fanáticos del mundo” e informó que, respetando el último deseo del artista, no se realizarán actos fúnebres.
Nacido el 20 de noviembre de 1939 en San Juan, el cantante publicó más de una veintena de discos a lo largo de su carrera, entre los que destacan “Champán y ron: las mejores baladas de salsa” (1986) y “Tu Amante Romántico” (1988).
Paquito Guzmán comenzó su trayectoria musical a principios de los años sesenta y por décadas cultivó éxitos en diversos géneros como el bolero, la guajira, la guaracha y la salsa.
Formó parte de el Trío Los Primos de Rafael Scharrón y Tatín Vale y del Conjunto Cachana de Joe Quijano, pero consolidó su carrera en la música cuando se unió a la Orquesta La Primerísima de Tommy Olivencia.
El intérprete también se desarrolló como solista, logrando trascender las fronteras de Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico y alcanzando gran popularidad en toda Suramérica, especialmente en Venezuela, Colombia y Perú.
