El caricaturista salvadoreño Edwin Aguilar, quien por décadas ilustró los personajes de la serie Los Simpson, falleció el sábado pasado en Los Ángeles a los 47 años de edad, días después de sufrir un infarto, informaron sus familiares.
La plataforma Amicohoops indicó que Aguilar estuvo en la unidad de cuidados intensivos desde el 7 de abril.
En una entrevista con EFE en 2015, Aguilar recordó su encuentro con el guionista Chuck Jones a quien le contó que, cuando era niño, aprendió a dibujar al Conejo de la Suerte (Pirongapio) Bugs y al Pato Lucas copiándolos del interior de las tapas de botella que coleccionaba.
A Aguilar, oriundo del cantón El Carao en la provincia de San Miguel, y quien migró a Estados Unidos en la década de 1980, se le atribuye la creación del personaje central de la serie, Homero, y sus familiares Bart, Lisa, Marge y Maggie.
Nacido en 1974, Aguilar migró a Estados Unidos con su hermano cuando tenía nueve años de edad, y en una entrevista con El Diario de Hoy dijo que abandonó su país para evitar que la guerrilla o el Ejército lo reclutaran durante la guerra civil.
Gracias a una beca, Aguilar estudió ilustración en el Centro Artístico de Diseño de Pasadena, y luego animación en el Instituto de Puentes Visuales, de Santa Mónica, ambos en California.
Comenzó su carrera profesional como animador para la firma Graz Entertainment productora de los Transformers, y GI-Joe.
