En el rescate, que tuvo lugar el sábado pasado, se encontraron seis colmenas, cinco de las cuales estaban intactas, y solo las abejas de la sexta murieron. Sin embargo, el motivo de su muerte no estaría relacionado con el volcán, sino porque “ya estaban débiles” antes de la erupción, según explicó Elías González, presidente de la Agrupación de Defensa Sanitaria (ADS) Apicultores de La Palma.
En un video difundido en redes sociales, se puede ver a un agente de la Policía Local de El Paso escarbando las cenizas para extraer las colmenas, tres de las cuales estaban completamente enterradas bajo las cenizas.
Las abejas, cuando se encuentran en peligro, son capaces de defenderse creando una capa de propóleo para tapar cualquier hueco, dejando solo un pequeño agujero para entrar y salir.
