El festival de cine de Berlín premiará al director estadounidense Martin Scorsese por el conjunto de su carrera durante su próxima edición, en febrero, anunciaron los organizadores del certamen este jueves.
La 74º Berlinale rendirá homenaje a «uno de los cineastas más destacados del cine mundial desde los años 1970«.
El cineasta de orígenes sicilianos y criado en Nueva York recibirá un premio honorífico durante una ceremonia de gala el próximo 20 de febrero.
«Para los que consideran el cine como el arte de crear una historia tanto personal como universal, Martin Scorsese es un modelo inigualable. Sus filmes nos han acompañado como espectadores y como seres humanos, sus personajes han vivido y han crecido en nosotros«, afirmaron los directores de la Berlinale, Mariette Rissenbeek y Carlo Chatrian.
«Para nosotros es una gran alegría recibir una vez más a un gran amigo del festival y entregarle nuestro premio honorífico más importante«, agregaron en un comunicado.
El festival tendrá lugar en la capital alemana del 15 al 25 de febrero.
Martin Scorsese, de 81 años, es conocido por dirigir películas intensas y viscerales sobre hombres atormentados y violentos. Ha colaborado en varias ocasiones con un grupo reducido que reúne a algunas de las mayores estrellas de la industria, como Robert De Niro y Leonardo DiCaprio.
Con más de 70 películas en su haber, ha sigo distinguido, entre otros, con la Palma de Oro del Festival de Cannes en 1976 por «Taxi Driver» y con el Óscar al mejor director en 2007 por «The Departed» («Los infiltrados»).
En la última edición de la Berlinale, el Oso de Oro de Honor recayó en el estadounidense Steven Spielberg, que presentó su cinta más autobiográfica, «The Fabelmans«, durante el festival.
