El presidente, Nicolás Maduro, afirmó que el fallecimiento del gobernador de La Guaira, Jorge Luis García Carneiro, fue un golpe duro y repentino para las filas del proceso bolivariano.
«Ha sido un golpe duro, parece que la vida se ha hecho difícil por los golpes recibidos, primero el Chino Khan, Darío Vivas, la pérdida del profe Aristóbulo Istúriz y ahora de Carneiro».
Maduro calificó al general en jefe como un ser humano excepcional y recordó que el pasado jueves tuvo un acto de gobierno en el que estuvo acompañado de García Carneiro.
«Desprenderse de un ser humano excepcional como García Carneiro ha sido un golpe duro», destacó la gestión que adelantó como mandatario regional en beneficio de los guaireños.
«Yo sabía que cada tarea que se le daba a Carneiro en poco tiempo estaba cumplida».
Maduro consideró a García Carneiro como uno de los protagonistas de la unión cívico militar que impulsó Chávez, dijo que un punto de inflexión en la historia reciente del país fue la lealtad de García Carneiro con Chávez en abril de 2002.
«General de la lealtad, de la valentía y de la firmeza, un General de la revolución», García Carneiro está en la vanguardia por siempre», expresó.

Maduro señaló que el alto mando político de la revolución había evaluado los escenarios de candidaturas ante las venideras elecciones «y los números indicaban que García Carneiro iba a ser reelecto por cuarta vez por un torrente de votos. Era el gobernador mejor valorado en el país, con más apoyo, esa es la verdad».
El mandatario otorgó la distinción de Orden Libertadores post mortem única en su clase y réplica del Sable de Carabobo al gobernador de La Guaira.
El presidente asistió a la capilla ardiente acompañado de la primera dama, Cilia Flores, y la vicepresidenta Ejecutiva, Delcy Rodríguez, así como del ministro para la Defensa, Vladimir Padrino López, y representantes de los poderes públicos.
