El gobierno de Venezuela recibió este domingo al nuevo representante para el país del Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (Unicef), Abubacar Mamadbhay Sultan, con el que buscarán «dar continuidad» a los programas acordados entre esta entidad y el Ejecutivo.
«Este 24 de octubre arribó al país el nuevo representante de Unicef Venezuela, Abubacar Mamadbhay Sultan, para dar continuidad a los programas acordados con el Gobierno venezolano y orientados a la protección y realización de los derechos de cada niño, niña y adolescente», escribió la Cancillería del país caribeño en Twitter.
El nuevo representante fue recibido por el viceministro para Temas Multilaterales del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Rubén Molina.
En un comunicado posterior, la Cancillería detalló que Abubacar Mamadbhay y Molina «hicieron un repaso de las prioridades y compromisos asumidos en la colaboración con los distintos actores nacionales y contenidos en el último programa país» elaborado por Unicef.
Abubacar Mamadbhay es mozambiqueño y ha colaborado por más de 30 años con Unicef en Angola, Guinea-Bissau y Estados Unidos, según explicó el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores venezolano.
El pasado 2 de agosto, el entonces canciller venezolano del gobierno de Maduro, Jorge Arreaza, y la directora regional para América Latina y el Caribe de Unicef, Jean Gough, se reunieron con el objetivo de «profundizar la cooperación» para mejorar las condiciones de los menores en la nación.
Unicef está presente en Venezuela desde 1967. En 1991 se firmó el primer «Programa de País», documento clave de su cooperación con los actores nacionales.
