La vigésima primera edición del torneo contó en la primera fase, que culminó este jueves con siete partidos, con equipos de un mismo país que se enfrentaron entre sí, excepto los de Argentina y Brasil.
Los dieciséis ganadores avanzaron a la fase de grupos y al menos dos equipos de cada federación estarán en acción junto con los seis clubes de Argentina y seis conjuntos de Brasil, así como los cuatro eliminados en la tercera fase de la Copa Libertadores.
Las formaciones que competirán en la fase de grupos por Argentina serán Banfield, Defensa y Justicia, Independiente, Lanús, Racing Club y Unión.
Por el lado brasileño estarán Atlético Goianiense, Santos, Ceará, Internacional, Sao Paulo y Cuiabá, detalla EFE.
Los clasificados a la ronda de grupos son los bolivianos Oriente Petrolero y Jorge Wilstermann; por Chile, Unión La Calera y Antofagasta; por Colombia, Independiente Medellín y Junior; por Ecuador, Liga de Quito y Nueve de Octubre; por Paraguay, General Caballero y Guaireña; por Perú, Melgar y Ayacucho; por Uruguay, River Plate y Wanderers; y por Venezuela, Metropolitanos y La Guaira.
Los equipos que recibieron un premio «consolación», pues fueron eliminados de la tercera instancia de la Copa Libertadores y ahora competirán en la Sudamericana, son el Fluminense brasileño, el Everton chileno y los ecuatorianos Barcelona y Universidad Católica.
El sorteo de la fase de grupos de la Copa Sudamericana se hará el próximo 25 de marzo en la sede de la Conmebol en Luque (Paraguay), junto con el de la misma instancia de la Copa Libertadores.
