La llegada de la colada de lava del volcán de la isla española de La Palma al mar está formando una densa nube de vapor de agua y algunos gases que no representan un peligro para la salud, además de estar creando un delta que «poco a poco gana terreno al mar».
Según el último recuento del sistema de satélites europeo Copernicus, la lava del volcán afecta hasta el momento a 744 edificaciones, de las que 656 están destruidas, y ha cubierto una superficie de 267,5 hectáreas, mientras los kilómetros de carreteras afectados alcanzan los 23,1, de los cuales 21,5 están destruidos.
En declaraciones a EFE, el vulcanólogo del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) Joan Martín ha señalado que la cantidad de gases que desprende la lava al entrar en contacto con el agua del mar es pequeña y se dispersará de forma «muy rápida», por lo que la afección será «muy local» y no habrá problemas si se siguen las recomendaciones de las autoridades.
Los expertos han aconsejado a los vecinos de la localidades próximas a la zona de Tazacorte, por donde entró anoche la lava al mar, que extremen las medidas de precaución y se mantengan confinados en sus hogares, donde se les recomienda el cierre de puertas y ventanas para evitar la entrada de gases desde el exterior.
En la misma línea, el Cabildo de La Palma ha recomendado a los vecinos confinados que se mantengan fuera de la zona de exclusión y ha añadido que no se permitirá el acceso a las zonas evacuadas.
Desde su entrada en el mar, antes de la media noche de ayer martes, la lava está formando un delta en la costa de Tazacorte que «poco a poco gana terreno» a las aguas marinas, ha avanzado el Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO).
En una entrevista radiofónica, el presidente canario, Ángel Víctor Torres, ha dicho que espera que la colada de lava deje de ensancharse, dado el efecto devastador que ha tenido en viviendas y explotaciones agrícolas, tras la apertura del canal que la dirige al mar, donde sigue desembocando «con normalidad».
Por su parte, el presidente del Gobierno español, Pedro Sánchez, ha anunciado que volverá a visitar la isla, aunque no ha concretado fecha, horas después de que el Consejo de Ministros declarase a La Palma zona catastrófica y aprobara una ayuda de 10,5 millones de euros.
Sánchez ha asegurado que las tres administraciones van a empezar a trabajar para aprobar cuanto antes un real decreto ley «con muchas más ayudas» para los palmeros.
Esta misma mañana la corporación insular de La Palma ha indicado que se paraliza el operativo de riego para los agricultores con fincas en Puerto Naos, El Remo y Las Hoyas.
