«Nos exigió e hizo que todos a su alrededor fuéramos mejores. Aunque nuestra relación contractual ha acabado, sigue siendo un miembro profundamente querido en la familia de Nike», apuntó la compañía, que estuvo al lado del atleta incluso cuando fue acusado de agresión sexual.
Con esta decisión, se espera que próximamente se detenga toda la producción relacionada con Kobe Bryant por parte de Nike.
Desde la prensa especializada estadounidense se afirma que Nike presentó una oferta de renovación que no era la esperada en términos económicos y de duración, ya que Bryant pretendía una relación contractual «de por vida», similar a la firmada por la compañía con Michael Jordan o LeBron James.
«Mi esperanza siempre será permitir que los fans de Kobe puedan tener y lucir sus productos», comentó Vanessa Bryant. «Seguiré luchando por ello. Los productos de Kobe se agotan en segundos. Eso lo dice todo», agregó la viuda del cinco veces ganador del anillo de la NBA.
