En Venezuela se ha disminuido en un 95% la producción de los cítricos, debido a la plaga del «dragón amarillo«, según precisó el director de frutales Fedeagro, Carlos Romero.
Explicó que «dragón amarillo» o Huanglonbing es una de las enfermedades más destructivas de cítricos en el mundo, y resaltó que Venezuela está contaminada de ella.
Por lo que considera necesario crear un plan nacional de producción de cítricos, así como un programa de control de insectos que contaminan las plantas.
«Para eliminarlo hay crear un control nacional y epidemiológico contra el insecto del dragón amarillo, fumigaciones nacionales y crear viveros de plantas de cítricos», dijo el también presidente de la Federación Nacional de Fruticultores.
Además, Romero pidió financiamiento bancario, debido a que en la siembra de cítricos se requiere esperar un periodo de tres años para ver frutos, tiempo que le complica la situación a una persona independiente.
Con respecto a la entrada de frutas al país, Romero la calificó como una competencia desleal.
En cuanto al tema de agroquímicos y fertilizantes, señaló que el sector está en crisis, incluyendo el tema del gasoil y la gasolina.
No obstante, aseguró continúan intentado ser productivos tanto para las fincas como para el personal, aunque los precios son muy altos.
