La Premier League renovó su acuerdo de derechos televisivos con la cadena estadounidense NBC Sports con un contrato hasta 2028 y valorado en 2.000 millones de libras (2.300 millones de euros).
Este acuerdo permitirá al canal estadounidense televisar los 380 partidos por temporada del campeonato inglés, así como tener también los derechos de la retransmisión en español.
En total, gracias a esta renovación, la NBC será la casa del fútbol inglés en Estados Unidos durante 15 años, ya que la primera vez que compraron los derechos fue en 2013.
Este montante de dinero sirve para sufragar las pérdidas sufridas por los equipos de la Premier League durante la pandemia, al tiempo que esta semana se anunció un nuevo paquete de ayudas dirigido para los equipos de las divisiones inferiores del Reino Unido, de Tercera para abajo.
Los partidos de la Premier League acumulan una media de 600.000 espectadores, lo que supone el máximo desde la temporada 2015-2016, un incremento del 14 % respecto a la campaña anterior.
Richard Masters, presidente ejecutivo de la Premier League, aseguró que NBC Sports está “incrementando significativamente” la popularidad de la liga en Estados Unidos gracias a una “promoción y cobertura fantásticos”.
