Los dirigentes de la OMS, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, y de la Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, se reunieron en las oficinas de la agencia de Naciones Unidas en Ginebra para firmar un acuerdo encaminado a terminar con la pandemia y combatir la desigualdad en materia de vacunas.
«El impacto de la pandemia se verá por decadas, especialmente entre los países vulnerables», dijo Tedros.
La OMS espera que el 70% de la población esté totalmente vacunada en cada país a finales de junio.
Tedros afirmó que 42% de los ciudadanos de la Commonwealth están vacunados completamente, pero solo el 23% lo están en los miembros africanos, expone la nota de AFP.
Scotland indicó que 32 de los 42 pequeños países del mundo están en la Commonwealth.
«A las tasas actuales de vacunación, podríamos vacunar a toda la población de esos Estados en los próximos dos o tres días», agregó la dirigente.
«Acceso equitativo a las vacunas, especialmente para países pequeños y vulnerables, es la más urgente prioridad política, económica, social y moral», dijo Scotland.
