Uno de los episodios más truculentos de la dictadura militar chilena tiene nombre de mujer: Ingrid Olderöck, la jefa de inteligencia que torturaba a disidentes usando perros de presa, y cuya historia llevó el director Hugo Covarrubias a la gran pantalla en el cortometraje “Bestia”.
Una producción que opta este año al Oscar a mejor corto animado y que ya recibió el respeto y la admiración de cineastas como Guillermo del Toro o Steven Spielberg.
Se trata de una cinta que versa sobre la crueldad de la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990) a través de la vida de Olderöck (1944-2001), una mujer tan poco conocida entre la sociedad como recordada por sus víctimas debido a la brutalidad con la que se ensañaba con las opositoras al régimen.
“Queríamos generar debate, que la gente reflexionara”, explicó Covarrubias (Santiago de Chile, 1977) a EFE, consciente de que parte de la población chilena recelará del corto.
Y es que, en algo más de quince minutos, este cortometraje evidencia la fractura social que hoy sigue viviendo el país andino, donde represaliados y familiares de las víctimas aún reclaman justicia por un pasado reciente trágico.
El simbolismo de las texturas
Valiéndose de la técnica ‘stop motion’ -simular el movimiento a través de sucesivas imágenes fijas-, Covarrubias contrapone las texturas suaves de los materiales con los que está construido el entorno de la producción con la porcelana que distingue al rostro de la protagonista.
“La porcelana parece dura pero es frágil a la vez, y el resto de componentes están hechos de un material muy barato que simboliza la pobreza disparada durante la dictadura”, precisó el cineasta.
Además, en el proceso de animación del personaje también tuvieron en cuenta los orígenes de Olderöck: “Venía de una familia nazi y queríamos reflejarlo con la imagen de una muñeca de cerámica alemana”.
“Tratamos de engañar al espectador con una estética afable propia de una película familiar, pero realmente tiene un corte muy macabro”, detalló su director, quien fijó el género del filme en una simbiosis entre ‘thriller’ psicológico y derechos humanos.
De la mano de esta narración inspirada en hechos reales, el espectador profundizará también en las inseguridades de esta agente de inteligencia.
Las escenas en las que se revelan sus dudas con su fisionomía al ponerse frente a un espejo, además de una sexualidad reprimida, contrastan con la imagen férrea proyectada al exterior y la violencia macabra que aplicaba como verdugo.
Interrogantes sobre la maldad humana y sus porqués afloran en este corto en el que la protagonista transita también desde el amor por su perro hasta oscuros instintos asesinos hacia el propio animal, fruto de “una mente desequilibrada”.
Derechos humanos en cortometraje de animación
Tras un notable proceso de documentación, “Bestia” apuesta por una defensa de los derechos humanos sin recurrir al género documental, e inevitablemente ficcionando una buena parte de la obra.
También presente en la entrevista con EFE, el productor ejecutivo de la cinta, Tevo Díaz, realzó la “buena conjugación” entre el formato de cortometraje animado y la promoción de los derechos fundamentales.
El corto fue condecorado este fin de semana en los principales premios de animación a nivel mundial, los Annie Awards, y en los últimos meses ha conseguido una treintena de galardones más que han llevado a esta producción chilena hasta Alemania, España, Croacia, Argentina, México o Japón.
En apenas dos semanas, “Bestia” puede coronar su palmarés con el Oscar a mejor cortometraje animado; algo que no descartó Covarrubias, quien reconoció que, a buen seguro, se le “quebraría la voz” dedicándoselo a los supervivientes y desaparecidos de la dictadura pinochetista.
