Las cifras se basan en los reportes comunicados diariamente por las autoridades sanitarias de cada país y excluyen las correcciones realizadas a posteriori por los diferentes organismos de estadística que concluyen que la cantidad de decesos es mucho más importante.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) estima incluso que si se tiene en cuenta la sobremortalidad vinculada al COVID-19, de forma directa e indirecta, el balance de la pandemia podría ser dos a tres veces más elevado que el registrado oficialmente.
Una parte importante de los casos menos graves o asintomáticos sigue sin detectarse a pesar de la intensificación de los test en numerosos países.
El jueves se registraron en el mundo 12 mil 736 nuevas muertes y 586 mil 617 contagios.
Los países que más fallecidos registraron según los últimos balances oficiales son India, con tres mil 660, Brasil (dos mil 245) y Estados Unidos (mil 234).
La cantidad de muertos en Estados Unidos asciende a 593.288 con 33.218.046 contagios. Después de Estados Unidos, los países con más víctimas mortales son Brasil, con 456.674 muertos y 16.342.162 casos, India, con 318.895 muertos (27.555.457 casos), México, con 222.657 muertos (2.405.772 casos) y Reino Unido, con 127.758 muertos (4.473.677 casos).
Entre los países más golpeados, Hungría registra la mayor tasa de mortalidad, con 307 decesos por cada 100.000 habitantes, seguido de República Checa (281), Bosnia (280), Macedonia del Norte (258) y Bulgaria (254).
