Kamala Harris llega a México procedente de Guatemala

La vicepresidenta de Estados Unidos, Kamala Harris, llegó a la Ciudad de México, procedente de Guatemala, para reunirse con el presidente de México, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, con el fin de dialogar, principalmente, sobre el fenómeno de la migración.

Harris, quien cumple su primer viaje al extranjero, llegó a la capital mexicana alrededor de las 23.00 horas (04.00 GMT del martes) para una visita que durará menos de 24 horas ya que partirá de la metrópoli el martes por la tarde.

La funcionaria, a quien el presidente estadounidense, Joe Biden, encargó la gestión de la crisis migratoria en la región, se entrevistará por primera vez en persona con López Obrador con quien ya ha dialogado en dos ocasiones por teléfono.

La última ocurrió el jueves 3 de junio en la que le informó que Estados Unidos enviaría en las próximas semanas un millón de vacunas anticovid de Janssen, filial de la farmacéutica Johnson & Johnson.

En notas compartidas a la prensa, la portavoz de Harris, Symone Sanders, informó que en la reunión con López Obrador se dará seguimiento a su reunión virtual en mayo, cuando ambos buscaban «ampliar la cooperación entre Estados Unidos y México para abordar las causas fundamentales de la huida de Guatemala, Honduras y El Salvador».

Sanders dijo que Harris trabajará para «aprovechar los avances de esa primera conversación», que incluye, entre otros puntos que ambos países acordaron asegurar sus fronteras y estimular el desarrollo económico en los países del Triángulo Norte de Centroamérica y en el sur de México además del combate al tráfico ilícito de migrantes y la trata de personas, entre otros puntos.

La portavoz dijo que también hablarán sobre la migración específicamente en la frontera entre EEUU y México y abordarán las causas fundamentales que la provocan. Dijo que Harris y López Obrador serán testigos de la firma de un memorándum de entendimiento entre ambas naciones que implica a las agencias de desarrollo que trabajan en Centroamérica y que revisará cómo planean asignar la ayuda.

Posteriormente dijo que Harris participará en una conversación con mujeres emprendedoras y una mesa laboral y también se reunirá con el personal de la embajada de Estados Unidos en México.
