El fundador de Amazon y hombre más rico del mundo según Forbes, Jeff Bezos, visita este jueves el Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete, en la Amazonía colombiana, junto al presidente del país, Iván Duque.
«Viajamos al Parque Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete con Jeff Bezos, fundador de BezosEarthFund, y su vicepresidenta, Lauren Sánchez. Les mostraremos avances de compromisos contra la Crisis Climática y declaratoria, este año, del 30 % del territorio como áreas protegidas», escribió Duque en Twitter.
La Serranía de Chiribiquete es conocida como centro sagrado indígena y cuna del jaguar, así como tesoro arqueológico y biológico dentro del que destacan las pinturas rupestres de La Lindosa así como los tepuyes, mesetas abruptas con paredes verticales y cimas relativamente planas.
Igualmente tiene un papel fundamental en la reducción de la vulnerabilidad ante los efectos del cambio climático global ya que provee el 31 % del agua superficial de la Amazonía, con una oferta hídrica estimada de 70.264 millones de metros cúbicos del líquido.
Lucha climática
El presidente Duque, según un comunicado de su despacho, recordó que el magnate estadounidense «ha estado interesado en apoyar muchas de las políticas de acción climática y de áreas protegidas» en Colombia.
«Esta visita será muy importante para que él pueda conocer algunos de esos espacios de conservación en los que se requiere no solamente la declaratoria de protección sino una protección efectiva, porque eso contribuye no solamente al medioambiente, de manera estructural, sino que ayuda también a la meta de reducir emisiones de manera sustancial para el 2030 y el 2050», expresó.
En ese sentido, el fundador de Amazon, a través de su fundación Bezos Earth Fund, dará apoyo financiero a Colombia para impulsar la «estrategia 30×30», con la que el Gobierno busca proteger el 30 % de las áreas marinas y terrestres al 2030 y que, según el Ejecutivo, se cumplirá este año.
«Vamos a estar en el Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete. Vamos a poder hacer un sobrevuelo; ver, además, algunas de las importantes intervenciones en materia de conservación, pero también ver los retos que tenemos en esas zonas, cuando tenemos que enfrentar situaciones de deforestación y cosas de esa naturaleza», expresó Duque.
La idea, añadió el mandatario, es que «se pueda entender también que la movilización de recursos a las áreas protegidas es para evitar que haya degradación, que haya destrucción, y que podamos involucrar a los campesinos en todos los esquemas de lo que se conoce hoy como contratos de conservación natural».
